Switzerland - Walter Steiger - Multicoloured pump design - 2004

Walter Steiger was born in 1942 in Geneva Switzerland. Following the family tradition, he became an apprentice shoemaker at the age of 16. He soon moved to Paris to work for Bally shoes. In the early sixties he moved to London where he designed collections for Mary Quant and Bally Bis. In 1966 he set up his own studio here, which was an instant success. In 1973 he opened a boutique in Paris. Composition of a shoe is just as important as the aesthetic appeal of its exterior for him. He designed collections for Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel, Chloe, Claude Montana, Oscar de la Renta and Nina Ricci.
