Netherlands - Jan Jansen - Rattan sandal Design 'Bamboo' - 1973

Jan Jansen was born on 6 May 1941 in Nijmegen-Holland as a son of salesman of a children's shoe factory. He trained as a shoe designer in several shoe factories in Holland, while attending night classes at the Waalwijk Academy of shoemaking and The Academy of Art and Industry in Eindhoven. In 1962 he moved to Italy and worked in several shoe studios there like Follie, D'Alco and Albanese. On 8 november 1963 he opened his first boutique in Amsterdam. In 1969 he designed the 'Woody' clog. During the seventies hundreds of thousands of pairs were sold and it was to become his most copied model. He worked with Andrea Pfister, Manolo Blahnik, The Chelsea Cobblers, Stephane Kelian and Robert Clergerie. Next to his private label he designs freelance collections for producers and importers worldwide.
