Tajikistan - Ladies shoe with gilded wire embroidery - Mid 20th C

The Republic of Tajikistan is another mountainous landlocked country in Central Asia. Most of Tajikistan's populations belongs to the Tajik ethnic group, who share culture and history with the Iranian peoples and speak the Persian language. Tajiki women traditionally wear a long shapeless dress out of very colorful material with matching pants underneath. They often accompany thsi with heels, or at home, with the comfortable, all leather, gilded wire embroidered flat Tajik national shoes, like the one shown above. It is decorated with woolen pom poms, turquoise beads and small coin like tin discs.
